Lore & Background

Edge's journey began on Canada Day 1992 under the name Sexton Hardcastle before signing a developmental deal with the WWF in 1997. His televised debut occurred on June 22, 1998, following a match where he legitimately injured Jose Estrada Jr.'s neck with a somersault senton. Alongside his real-life friend Christian Cage, Edge formed The Brood and later the legendary tag team that won the World Tag Team Championship seven times during the Attitude Era, gaining notoriety for their participation in Tables, Ladders, and Chairs matches. After splitting in 2001 to pursue a solo career, he achieved historic milestones: winning the 2001 King of the Ring, the first Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania 21, and the 2010 Royal Rumble. This unique trifecta made him the first wrestler to ever achieve all three honors.

In Their Own Story

Edge's career faced its most significant turning point when he first retired in 2011 due to multiple neck injuries, leading to his WWE Hall of Fame induction the following year. Nine years later, at the 2020 Royal Rumble, he returned as a surprise entrant, reigniting his career. He went on to win the 2021 Royal Rumble match, becoming only the eighth man in history to win it twice and the first to do so after being inducted into the Hall of Fame. His return run included headlining major pay-per-views like WrestleMania 37 - Night 2. Following his WWE contract expiration in September 2023, he joined AEW the next month, debuting at WrestleDream and winning the AEW TNT Championship twice before forming a tag team with Christian Cage to capture the AEW World Tag Team Championships.
